Frequently asked questions

How much do custom cabinets cost?

It depends on how many linear feet you need, the materials and the finish. Angi puts the national average for custom cabinet projects at about $7,429, with most between $2,799 and $12,942, and about $500 to $1,500 or more per linear foot. A full kitchen with 35 or more linear feet runs about $20,000 to $30,000 nationally. These are national figures, not local quotes.

What is the difference between stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets?

Stock cabinets come in fixed sizes and finishes. Semi-custom cabinets start from standard boxes with more size and style options. Custom cabinets are built for one space, to its exact measurements, with your choice of materials, doors and finishes.

Do I need a permit to replace cabinets?

Usually not for the cabinets alone. The City of Lakeland lists replacing cabinets as work that does not need a permit, and Hillsborough County describes cabinet work as typically cosmetic. Moving plumbing, adding electrical work or changing walls generally does need a permit. Your contractor should confirm with the office that covers your address.

How long does a custom cabinet project take?

Design and fabrication usually take several weeks, depending on the shop and the season. Installation is often a matter of days for a kitchen and a day or two for a vanity, closet or built-in. Ask for the full schedule in writing.

Which areas do you serve?

Homeowners across Polk County, including Lakeland, Winter Haven, Bartow, Auburndale, Haines City, Davenport and Lake Wales, plus Plant City, Brandon, Valrico, Seffner, Dover and Lithia in eastern Hillsborough County. Share your address so contractor availability can be confirmed.

Who does the actual work?

Custom Cabinets Lakeland connects homeowners with independent local cabinetmakers and installers. The contractor you choose provides the design, estimate, fabrication, installation and warranty. Availability must be confirmed for your location.

What happens when I call?

The line is open 24 hours a day. Calls are answered by an automated receptionist that collects your details, and calls are tracked and may be transcribed so your request can be passed on accurately. See our privacy policy and referral and marketing disclosure.

Are the photos on this site your projects?

No. The photos show example cabinetry styles to help you picture options. They are not projects completed by this website or by the contractors in our network.

Plywood or particleboard cabinet boxes?

Plywood holds screws better and resists moisture better, which helps around sinks and in Florida humidity. Quality MDF and particleboard are used too, especially with laminate. Ask what your boxes, shelves and drawer boxes are made of.

Painted or stained cabinets?

Painted cabinets, often with MDF door panels, give a clean look and resist cracking at joints. Stained wood shows grain and hides small dings differently. Ask to see finish samples in your light.

Can I reface my cabinets instead of replacing them?

Refacing replaces doors and drawer fronts and covers the frames, keeping the existing boxes. It can work when the boxes are sound and the layout works. If the layout is the problem, new cabinets are the better fix.

How much does a custom closet cost?

Angi lists reach-in closets at about $500 to $3,000 and walk-in closets at about $1,000 to $8,000 nationally, depending on size, materials and accessories.
